Note
In order to make his iconic fashion photograph New York City (Girls in the Windows), Ormond Gigli orchestrated this complex scenario in a dilapidated building across the street from his New York City studio on East 58th Street. He had often daydreamed of placing beautifully dressed women in each of its windows. When he learned that the Beaux Arts building was going to be demolished in 1960, he embarked on the herculean task of arranging 43 models – plus a Rolls Royce and driver - to create this mesmerizing image that perfectly balances fashion and fantasy.
